Ideas!

Please post any ideas you may have for the project your groups will be completing this quarter in the comments section of this post.

  1. I have an idea for a video that would need someone who looks very similar to a popular celebrity. The video would show how obsessed our culture is with celebrities.

  2. I have a few ideas:

One would explore the concept of romantic love and how it is different in each culture (since come cultures still practice arranged marriage and don't place as much value on "love" as ours does). This could explore a variety of things, from how love is portrayed in books and movies to the high divorce rate.

Another idea would be to explore the "following the herd" concept, or in other words, conformity. An example of this would be the use of escalators over stairs or joining in with cheers or applause, etc. If you've seen the movie Dead Poets' Society, the marching scene points out this concept excellently.

If you have questions about either of these or if you would possibly like to work on one with me, just send me an email!

  3. So one of my ideas is based on the concept of values. I think it would be interesting to go around campus and ask different individuals to show us one thing they always keep with them that they value and to photograph them with this item of value. We could then compose one of the flickr slide shows of the picutres and information we have gathered mainly showing how different groups of people value different things in life.

If your interested in this email me at deeds.jessica@gmail.com

  4. I think I have a pretty cool video idea involving the Radiohead song "Jigsaw Falling into Place." Using a Subject who 'plays w/' societal norms to the point in the end where he destroys his small society.~~. Not exactly sure of how to relate this whole video to class(other than a boy who lets societal norms [and ppl who follow them] drive him to the brink of insanity..), but i do have some great graphic images/great song to work with!/ which when all put together could really draw an audience, and none less than a Stellar Grade. So i guess i am looking for some Radiohead fan's with a camera~who want to dig into Yorke's Brain alittle~~~ :)
    email me@ jc138309@ohio.edu ifyoure interested

  5. I am currently developing a project that relates the concept of social deviance to the body modification subculture. I am working on lining up interviews with a few people that I think will be interesting case studies. I really need someone with a camera and some knowledge of video production to pull it together. If interested, email me at leo.guinan(at)gmail.com.

  6. I am thinking of doing a slideshow presentation that would demonstrate the unique diversity of Ohio University. This slideshow would show differences in cultures across the world and ultimately cultivate them into one community that is Ohio University. Looking for anyone who might be interested. Simple idea that can really demonstrate how we may all be different but common goals can often unite groups of people who otherwise would have never met. In this case, education? ac131109@ohio.edu

  7. I'm interested in working on a project that deals with social deviance as it relates to political inclinations, specifically anarchism and how it has impacted society at large (Emma Goldman and the labor movement for example as well as the DIY subculture). I was a little distraught at the treatment of anarchism in lecture and would like to explore its impacts as a political/ethical perspective within the context of society, at the very least as something more than the fashion-based folly of skinny white boys with liberty spikes from the U.K...
If anyone is interested email me at alanna.n.shaw@gmail.com. I'd like to get started really soon!
I'm also thinking Youtube video but am not a particularly skilled video editor, so if anyone is interested and into that kind of thing, all the better.

  8. i had a few ideas one idea was the concept that politeness to strangers has pretty much been slimmed down and is not exactly a social norm in my opinion sometimes acting out for a stranger is looked at the same way as acting out of social norm in many other ways...

  9. and my second idea was more of a hypothesis but the hypothesis is that in a larger system like a college campus were interaction is not forced in any way it is more likely for a conversation or friendship to occur between people of opposite genders than of the same gender ( my point on it is that if i went up to a female and started a conversation blah blah it would have more of a chance to spar a friendship or end in us talking more ex. exchanging phone numbers hanging out than if i went up to another guy and started a conversation (note that the conversations would probably be about different things that would relate to how the person seemed to be) if i could get any feedback on either of those it'd be nice :)

  11. For my group idea, I think my group is going to act how, in real life, how people act of Facebook. This project will be called "Facebook in real life". We are going to show exactly how social networks bring together groups of people and help people stay in touch. For an example, in our video, we will have someone walk up to another person and say "I haven't seen you in a while, want to be my friend?"
